Fractal Audio ... where could I start by ?? I could say that the Axe-Fx and his big brother the Ultra are with no doubt at all a big change or a revolution for the guitar player of today in his way to build his own sound, if he really wants to jump in !!

To make it short, theses babies are some preamp / multi effects processors in a 2U rack.

Both Axe-Fx and Ultra are built like some modelisers but finally doesn’t work this way : both go further.

“Hey, look ! It seems to be a Pod full option? That seems not bad !” Wrong ! Here we do have THE sound (Fender Mesa, Vox, Soldano, Dumble, CAE ...), quality, top of the line effects : vintage stompboxes, wah wah, harmoniser, dynamic delay, vocoder ... do I have to keep on enumerate ?), freedom to root  exactly the way you’ve always wanted to and more, you can really create your OWN sounds !!!

About the amps, it’s like we would have an iron solder and we would mix a few amps ... the dream !!! We can use a Marshall Plexi amp head with the tone section of a Fender Bassman amp head for example. You can also change the tube reaction in the power amp section : add more power drive - real overdrive - or more drive in the preamp section - distortion - or both !

Actually, it’s no more, no less than the Ultimate Sound Station for the guitar player (and the bass player as well as there is some bass amp as well ...). Period. And to finish, the best of the best is that it is updated very often, and that you can contact via the Axe-Fx User’s Forum, the conceptor Cliff Chase himself whom is omnipresent on the forum to listen to the user’s needs.
